Lewis Clarke - World record holder as the youngest person to trek to the South Pole. 

Lewis completed his 702 mile journey on 18th January 2014 and at the age of 16 became the youngest person ever to complete this journey.  Prior to commencing this extraordinary challenge Lewis spent 18 months training with Gary of Health & Performance to prepare him for the physical challenges that lay ahead.


Doctor Sarah Johnson, Lewis’s mum, commented after the expedition “The truth is that he had every polar ailment from the cough, blisters, chaffing, frost nip BUT he did not have any muscular injuries or problems of that sort at all and that is thanks to your excellent preparation work”


Rachel Taylor – Welsh Women’s Rugby captain

Rachel has worked with Gary to help prepare herself for the huge physical demands of top level club and international rugby.  This has included conditioning of anaerobic and aerobic energy systems to provide for the energy demands of the game, strength and power work to enhance performance and reduce injury potential, as well as technical training to enhance movement efficiency and injury prevention.

I've been training with Gary since 2008 which I guess is a signal in its self of what I think of Gary's training methods.  I've a very busy committed job which doesn't leave me much free time. Having been massively into sport I noticed as I was getting older my posture and fitness were not the best.  I booked in a few sessions with Gary and immediately I started to see the benefits. Gary took a holistic approach to my overall health in terms of my diet, lifestyle and general health. Gary is very focused on ensuring your body is in a place where it can benefit from a the regime and stay injury free. To start he focused on posture, core strength and technique whilst overseeing eating habits. As we progressed, the training become more intensive and I could really see some impressive results. I had far more energy and I was in the best shape of my life.  Gary's style is relaxed and effort focused. Don't be fooled by his laid back demeanor; he's always coming up with new techniques and regimes to challenge the body.

Mike - 60 year old stroke victim

I started training with Gary having suffered a stroke at the age of 60. Overnight my life was totally transformed as I was now unable to perform many everyday tasks, and even popping to the shops for milk was a thing of the past.  As well as the physical debilitation, there was the psychological effect of what had happened and no longer being self sufficient. As the sessions of Personal Training went by I noticed that tasks which I was struggling to perform and would leave me drained were becoming much easier. Seeing that it was possible to become stronger, fitter and more mobile again was a great boost and represented a turning point in my recovery. Returning to hospital for my 12 week check up, the physiotherapists were amazed with my progress, having improved test scores by over 100%.
